Photographs of Bunting’s home in Rapallo courtesy of Massimo Bacigalupo.

Massimo writes: “It’s the roof you see on the left near the cypress trees. The path in the foreground would be the approach to the house from uphill. Of course all the housing development you see at the bottom did not exist in the 1930s. But today, as Ezra Pound says, there is still “sea, over roofs… still the sea and the headland” (ie the Portofino promontory in the offing). I remember seeing a photographic album in which Basil had pasted pictures of his Rapallo years. There was one of a little church (Sant’Anna) with the caption “it’s so small you can reach across”.
